Cancer is a wicked disease that robbed my mother Carol Papso of her life, but through her dog rescue efforts, she was blessed to directly create ripples that reach far beyond her earthly time. I know from her bedside wishes that she did not wish to see her dog rescue efforts end after she went home to be with Jesus.
After the sudden loss of our first rescue, Persephone (pictured), my mother found herself immersed in the Houston rescue community in an effort to bring awareness on how the "unwanted dogs" (pitties, muts, etc) often end up being the best companions. My mother was a remarkable advocate for these forgotten dogs - something that consumed the final years of her colorful life. She sacrificed everything - family trips, doctors visits, daily peace of mind - to keep these dogs alive. Her rescue efforts have brought hope, healing, and second chances to countless animals in need that were within minutes of being unfairly euthanized.
My mom exemplified what it means to be a true animal champion. Faced with the challenges of overcrowded shelters, neglected dogs, limited resources, and an understaffed network, she still managed to consistently answer the call to help.
If you are unaware, Houston has some of the deepest needs for rescue and foster support, and it is my family's desire to take any donations in lieu of flowers to distribute to specific individuals and agencies that my mom worked directly with. She asked this of my family, and we will honor her wishes.
100% of every donation will go directly to the dogs - food, vaccinations, transportation, adoption fees, temporary housing, etc.
