I never imagined that in just a few short months my life would change so dramatically. Asking for help is incredibly difficult for me because I've always worked hard and taken pride in standing on my own. After 35 years in the workforce, I fully intend to return as soon as I'm physically able.
This year has been one of the hardest of my life. In January, our family lost an incredible woman who meant so much to all of us. Before I could even begin to heal from that loss, I lost my job in April. Shortly afterward, I underwent a life-saving double bypass of my aorta and iliac arteries. Although the surgery saved my life, my recovery has been long and complicated.
Losing my job also meant losing my health insurance, so the medical bills continue to grow while I recover. Right now, I'm simply trying to make it through the next few weeks until my doctors clear me to return to work.
I'm not looking for a handout—just a little help during a season I never expected to face.
