I need your help to raise $35,000 to secure green cards (Permanent Resident Cards) from the US Citizen and Immigration Service (USCIS) for the family of Sami Jamal. Sami served 6 years as a Linguist & Cultural Advisor with the US Army, Marines and Special Forces in Afghanistan. His parents and sisters came to the US legally last year after escaping the Taliban and hiding as refugees in Pakistan for two and a half years.
There are seven family members in need of Green Cards, cost of which is $5,000 each.
Sami is already a US Citizen. The Taliban poster with a $5000 bounty on his life expedited his paperwork. DHS policy now states that "Afghanistan is becoming safer and more economically stable" and that threat of violence "will no longer prevent Afghans from returning to their home country." This may be true for some, but it is not true for Sami's family. Deportation is a death sentence.
I learned about Sami from two retired Colonels, one Marine, one Army - Chris Starling and Joe Felter, respectively. They did the heavy lifting for the last 3 years. They coordinated everything from safe houses to medical care, asylum paperwork, transportation, and leveraging contacts at Department of State to expedite the cases.
Meanwhile, Sami's family was forced to walk for over 24 hours across the Khyber Pass into Peshawar, Pakistan. When the safehouse there was compromised, they had to move by night another location in Islamabad. For two and a half years they hid and lived in fear.
Humanitarian parole, their legal pathway into the US, will not be renewed. The only hope of staying in the US is by obtaining Green Cards quickly, hence the urgency of this request. A few of us can make the difference. If you need more details, please reach out to me. Some of you may know Chris and Joe, and either of them can provide specifics as well. Let's wrap this up. Most of us on reading this could never be Afghans, but Sami's family, they sure as heck can be Americans.
Thank You !
