In February of 2025, my family and I kept encountering this sweet little boy, running around the neighborhood. We’d notice his matted fur, the weeds stuck in it, the shivering (since it was still snowing and getting down to freezing temps and what not). He was either in the locked in the backyard, running the fence or he’d manage to get out and come to our house. There was at least twice one of us would take the dog back to the neighbors house he came from. The last time (March 2025), however, we noticed how skinny he was. Feeling the bones in his spine, his hip bones, we gave him a couple treats and he didn’t even chew them he was so hungry. His tongue was three times the size it was and he couldn’t get enough water to save his life. I told my Husband and Mom, “if he comes back he is ours. They clearly are neglecting this poor guy. He is a bag of bones.” Like clockwork, right before a rowdy winter storm was making its way in, the temp was BITTER cold and this sweet boy was curled up on our front step waiting for someone to get home. So my husband brought him in and from that point on he was family. We carefully trimmed his fur of all the weed infested mats, we fed him lots of treatos and food to get his measly 4lb frame to bulk up, and more than anything we loved him. Which is clearly something he didn’t get at the neighbors. They’ve clearly prioritized alcohol over not only their kids, but also their animals. We renamed this sweet boy Remy, he responded to it immediately. He followed me everywhere, slept on my pregnant tummy and was my little side kick. He gained weight, he looked healthy and happy, the twinkle came back to his eyes, and he had other dogs to play with. He truly flourished into the most rambunctious little pup. He ruled the roost with the other dogs. Small but mighty! Almost 14 months of loving and caring for this sweet boy and his owners came out of their drunken stupor enough to realize (or finally care, I don’t know) enough to come and get him. So while I’m in Albuquerque and my husband was sick, one of the occupants next door, comes over, bangs on our door, threatens to bull rush her way into my house to get the dog. My Mom tries to go into the house and Remy is by the door and the piece of crap grabs him and runs. In the throes of pretty heavy postpartum depression, this dog has been my saving grace a handful of times. He always knew when I needed a little extra love. The day I left to Albuquerque, I didn’t even want to go anymore, but went anyways. I sat on my bed and cried and he came over to me and licked my face and snuggled me close. I had a split second thought of taking him with us. But due to room in our already full car, I didn’t. Now, I really wish I did 😭💔 I miss my sweet boy so much, I’m desperate to get him back. So I’m hoping I can raise some money, whether it’s legal fees or even just to go and knock on the door to offer to buy him back. He did everything with me and it’s really hard being home without him. Please help me save him. Not only for me, but for him. Because if they didn’t care before, that’s not going to change. He deserves so much better.
I love you, Remy. Momma’s gonna find a way to save you again. I promise. 😭
