Sean was in a head on collision. A lady driving a Nissan Altima swerved into his lane hitting him head on while he was driving a blue jeep suv as pictured below

Accident

On june 17 I received a call which was the type of call that is a parents worst nightmare. The call was to inform me that Sean was in a serious car accident and was being transported to lake Monroe hospital and was in critical condition. Unfortunately also was informed that the lady driving the other car died on impact.

When I arrived to the hospital my son was still in surgery. The surgeon came out and told us that he had never seen such a bad hip break in his life, with his hip cracked in so many little pieces. He spent many hours putting it back together. This was on top of the surgeon having to fix his left femur which was severely broken also. This was just from the orthopedic surgeon.

On top of the leg injuries he also suffered 5 broken ribs and collapsed lung . He had to be induced into a medical coma and put on a ventilator to breath for 1.5 weeks .

After the ventilator was removed , he had to have another surgery to cut a hole in his throat for a trach collar to be attached and a hole cut in his side to have a chest tube to drain the excess fluid from his lung.

As any parent would I spent countless hours waiting for him to open his eyes or be able to squeeze my hand to know that he was going to be ok.

I recall bringing an alphabet book and having him nod his head when I pointed to a letter to see if I could figure out what he needed as he could not speak for me over 2 weeks.

My heart broke every time I saw him as he did the right thing by driving the speed limit , wearing his seatbelt and being an attentive driver and despite doing all the right things he still ended up in this condition.

I want to thank everyone involved that saved my son’s life. Sean said all he remembered was that he thought a large truck hit him and that someone told him to get out of his car as it was on fire. He told the guy he wasn’t able to move and this amazing stranger was able to pull him out of the burning car thru the passenger side and carry him to safety in the grass.

It is truly a miracle he is alive.

After over 5 weeks in the hospital Sean was released from the hospital on July 23rd. I ended up taking him home to live with me because it would be impossible for him to live alone with his current physical status.

He will have to undergo countless hours of inhome physical therapy and then many more hours of outpatient physical therapy when the orthopedic doctor finally clears him to put weight on his legs again. He is currently confined to a wheelchair and cannot put weight on either leg at the moment.

It will be a long road of recovery that he will have to travel for not only physical but mental health and dealing with ptsd from the accident. I know he has a strong will and will come out strong eventually from this traumatic experience.

It has been a very difficult and emotional experience for myself and our family.

Trooper Steve did a very good YouTube video discussing the accident. He recorded driving on both sides of the road to show how and where the accident happened from both vehicles point of view. He went on to mention that this accident should have never happened and that they have never had any motor vehicle accidents in this stretch of 434 and this accident was very abnormal.

At this time it is unknown when Sean will be able to work again and being self employed he doesn’t have any company to help with bills and expenses.

We did hire one of the best attorneys in the city and after three weeks of countless hours of investigation and research they alerted us that unfortunately the person who hit him only had the bare minimum for insurance and there was nothing they could do to help in terms of getting compensation  beyond that. Unfortunately the minimum amount Florida requires for vehicle insurance will only cover maybe a 1/10th of all the hospital bills and continuing therapy costs will end up being.

Any donations would be greatly appreciated and no amount is to small.
