Porn Sawan, which means Blessing from Heaven, was born around 1994. She was rescued in August 2011 from illegal logging on the Thai Burmese border. 

Porn Sawan had finished her day’s work and was in the forest foraging for food when she stepped on a landmine, blowing apart her back left foot. She was working in a very remote area at the time and it took her and the mahout several days to get to an area with a main road where a truck could meet them to transport her to a hospital. She stayed at the Thai Elephant Conservation Center government hospital in Lampang for three years while she was being treated and recovering from the injuries inflicted by the landmine.

Porn Sawan finally arrived at ENP in early June 2014. During her early days at the park, she was still quite traumatized by her ordeal and would mostly hang out on her own. After some time, Porn Sawan settled into life at ENP and became number one nanny to Yindee. She enjoys the company of her other herd mates, including Yindee’s mother, Mintra and Malai Tong who also has a permanent injury from a landmine exploding under her. She is fiercely protective of Yindee and very devoted to her new found friends. She gets around very well despite her injury and has a reason to feel positive about her life ahead.
