The Latha Murphy Speed Scholarship is named for a renowned
educator of Lakeland, Florida. She is a graduate of Bethune-Cookman College in 1960.
Mrs. Speed retired from the Polk County
School System after giving thirty-eight years of service as a teacher,
reading specialist, and principal.
Sylvester Little, a former student, initiated the scholarship in the
name of Mrs. Speed because she saw his potential for success
when he was in her first-grade class.
The Latha Murphy Speed Scholarship is based at Mrs. Speed’s
church, Good Hope Missionary Baptist in Gordonville, Florida.
This Year for her 85th Birthday, we are asking for $85 contributions in lieu of gifts to endow the LMS scholarship fund and ensure its continuance.
A good education can change anyone, a good teacher can change anything!
