My name is Tamica Kelley, and I am a 54-year-old single mother and grandmother who is struggling to keep my family together during one of the most difficult periods of our lives. I am writing to respectfully ask for assistance in any way possible with my mortgage, utility bills, food expenses, clothing needs, and urgently needed repairs to my home's heating and cooling system.
Several years ago, my family experienced a devastating house fire that changed our lives forever. In the aftermath of that tragedy, I made some poor decisions while trying to cope with the stress, financial hardship, and emotional burden that followed. As a result, I lost my job and have struggled to regain financial stability.
Despite these challenges, I continue to care for and raise four young girls on my own, ages 14, 12, 11, and 7. Three of these girls are my grandchildren who were abandoned and left in my care. I stepped in to provide them with a safe, stable, and loving home because they had nowhere else to turn. While I do not regret taking on this responsibility, the financial demands of raising four children alone have become overwhelming.
I am currently behind on my mortgage payments and fear losing the home that provides shelter and security for my family. I am also behind on utility bills and struggling to provide enough food for the children. In addition, our heating and cooling system is in need of repair, creating unsafe and uncomfortable living conditions during extreme weather.
I am not asking anyone to simply give me money. I am humbly asking for help in any way possible. Assistance may come in the form of help with a utility bill, food, clothing, household necessities, repairs, gift cards, resources, referrals, prayers, or any other support that could help ease the burden on my family while I work toward securing a better job and becoming financially stable again.
For anyone who may be able to help directly, I can provide the name and contact information of my mortgage company, utility account information, and any documentation needed to verify my situation. I can also provide clothing and shoe sizes for the girls if anyone wishes to help with their personal needs.
My greatest concern is ensuring that these girls continue to have a safe place to live, electricity and water in our home, adequate food, and a stable environment where they can focus on school and simply be children. Losing our home or having our utilities disconnected would be devastating for our family.
I pray every day for the strength to keep moving forward and for opportunities to improve our situation. More than anything, I am asking for a helping hand to ease some of the burden until I can obtain a better job and provide the stability these girls deserve.
