We the Class of 2022 of the Sophie Davis Program in the CUNY School of Medicine, a 7 year BS/MD program, were recently informed that our annual formal event would not be funded/partially funded by the CUNY School of Medicine. The school decided without specific reason to forgo funding towards this event that many students have been looking forward to since they entered the program.
Understanding this, the senior medical class is now holding our own fundraiser in order to partially fund a ticketed event and bring back our traditional annual formal event. This would be the first black tie event our school has had since COVID-19. Many students have been looking forward to this since their initiation into the program.
Please consider donating whatever you can to help our class in need. We have been fortunate to have a 98% match rate, and would like to celebrate that in some way, whilst alleviating partial monetary burden for the students who are moving for residency, paying for new places to live, and starting a career in medicine.
