UPDATE: 5/2/26

The Garcia family shares with deep sorrow the passing of our beloved Sebastian this morning, May 2nd, after a courageous 5½-year battle with cancer.

We are profoundly grateful for the love, prayers, and support so many of you have shown Sebastian and our family, especially over these past few months. Your kindness brought him comfort and strength in ways words cannot fully express.

In his remaining time, Sebastian devoted himself to growing closer to God and deepening his Catholic faith. We take peace in knowing he is now at rest, and we humbly ask you to join us in praying for the repose of his soul.

With heartfelt gratitude,

The Garcia Family

UPDATE: 4/26/26

We want to share an update on our son. He is currently in ICU, fighting pneumonia and rhino virus. His disease is also progressing, making it much harder to breath. This is an incredibly difficult time for our family. We ask for your continued prayers, strength, and support as he keeps fighting. Please keep him close in your hearts. ~Jorge & Veronica

SEBASTIAN’S STORY

Sebastian Garcia was a student athlete at Edinburg High School, for the Edinburg Runnin’ Bobcats Basketball Program and Golf Team. He is the son of Coach Garcia who has been coaching boys basketball for 26 years. During Thanksgiving week of his senior year, after experiencing some pain on his knee he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma.

At the age of 18, Sebastian began his cancer journey and has continued to fight for the past 5 years. During this time, he has undergone countless procedures and operations. He continues to show incredible strength through his long and difficult journey. Thanks to the unwavering love and support of his family, he is not alone. Together, they have fought relentlessly every step of the way with courage, faith, and resilience.

Today, Sebastian faces an incredibly difficult decision: to pursue a final alternative treatment with no guaranteed success, or to return home and focus on living each day to its fullest—surrounded by the people who mean the most to him. Regardless of the path Sebastian chooses, his story is one of bravery, love, and the power of family. We know God has great plans for Sebastian.

Please consider supporting Sebastian and his loved ones through a donation, and by sharing his story. Every contribution—no matter the size—helps support his fight against cancer and allows the Garcia Family to focus on what truly matters: time, comfort, and being together. Your contribution will help support weekly travel expenses, therapy services and spending time with his parents, brothers and sister. Thank you for keeping Sebastian and his family in your prayers and for any support you can provide.
