This is Myra Harris, I began my scouting adventure with BSA in January 2020 as a Founder in Troop 8G in Sacramento with the goal of becoming an Eagle Scout with Scout BSA and achieving Girl Scout Gold Award. I am now a Life Scout having completed 30 merit badges, held several positions of responsibilities, and been very active with the growth of our Troop and its activities as well as volunteer for Service by staffing at three National Youth Leadership Training courses. My journey is now at the point where I am working toward earning the highest and most honored rank in Scouting, that of Eagle Scout. To earn Eagle rank, I must plan, develop, and provide leadership to others in a service project helpful to the community.
For my Eagle Scout Project, I have chosen to help Sacramento Splash to develop an outdoor turtle habitat for Western Pond Turtles (Actinemys marmorata), which are native to California and need sunlight as well as protection from predators. The mission of Splash is to help children understand and value our natural world. Their vision is to teach a generation of children who value the natural world and take an active role in its protection. This speaks to me as I love animals and want to help them thrive as well as help others learn about how to protect our environment and world.
It is a big project that will require many hours of labor and approximately $2,000.00 in materials. As part of my project, I am required to request donations to fund materials necessary for construction of this project. Any financial assistance you can offer to help me achieve my goal of completing this project will be greatly appreciated. No amount is too small, and in the unlikely event any funds remain after the project is finished, they will go directly to the recipient of the project, Sacramento Splash.
