I’m raising funds to cover my cataract surgery deductibles and urgent legal mediation fees. I’m 60, disabled, unable to work, and my eyesight has deteriorated to the point where my surgeon says I cannot safely drive. I’m facing deadlines I cannot meet alone, and I’m asking for help so I can see again and stay safe.
Full Story
My name is Jason, and this is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to write. I’ve always tried to take care of myself, but right now I’m facing medical and legal expenses that I simply cannot cover. I’m 60 years old, disabled, and unable to work — not by choice, but because of my health.
In 2021, I was placed on disability and received Medicare along with Medicaid because my income was low enough to qualify. Later, I decided to take early retirement to help supplement my SSDI check. I lost 6% per year for drawing early, and now I receive only $335 a month in retirement benefits on top of disability.
That small increase pushed me just barely over the income limit, and I lost Medicaid. Without Medicaid, my Medicare premium jumped to $202 a month, and my Medicare Advantage plan (Anthem) does not cover the full cost of my cataract surgeries.
My surgeon told me I need cataract surgery as soon as possible. My vision has deteriorated so badly that he said I cannot safely drive in my current condition. Each eye requires a $340 deductible, and I simply don’t have the money.
On top of that, I’m in the middle of a divorce. I was ordered to pay $325 for a mediator by August 3rd, or I will be found in contempt. I’m doing everything I can, but I’m out of options.
I never imagined I’d be in a position where I’d have to ask for help just to see again and stay safe. But here I am — trying to keep my independence, follow court orders, and get the medical care I urgently need.
What I Need Help With
$340 deductible – Right eye cataract surgery
$340 deductible – Left eye cataract surgery
$325 – Court‑ordered mediation fee due August 3rd
Total Needed: $1,005
Any amount helps — even a few dollars. Your support will help me restore my vision, stay safe, and meet the legal requirements I’m facing. I’m grateful for anyone who takes the time to read this, share it, or donate.
Thank you for helping me through one of the hardest moments of my life.
— Jason
