I'm currently facing the struggle of affording to remain in the apartment I've called home for over three years due to continuous unemployment as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. While I'm grateful and fortunate enough to receive weekly unemployment, it fails to adequately cover my monthly expenses. I've found myself falling further and further behind since the CARES Act's boost in unemployment benefit levels expired on July 31st.
I've considered moving down to South Carolina and living with my mom until I can get back on my feet. While financially helpful, this wouldn't allow me to continue pursuing my graduate studies in NYC. While remote learning is currently an option, my next step involves student teaching and certification exams, which require me to physically be in New York. Taking a leave of absence isn't a viable option for me, as I've already done that for two semesters as a result of mental health setbacks. My program needs to be completed within a five-year timeframe, and for me that will be August 2021. I'm faced between choosing to give up my apartment and schooling due to a temporary setback, which I've been desperately trying to avoid.
Asking for help is something I find nearly impossible to do, especially when I know so many others are struggling and some have it worse than I do. I much prefer to help others, which is something I've found myself unable to do throughout the past several months. If you can donate anything to help me cover rent, that would be incredible. Thank you in advance.
