Nevin, Taylor, and their 13-month old son lived in an apartment in the three-story, 10-unit apartment complex in the 1100 block of Whipple Avenue that was mostly destroyed by a three-alarm fire on Memorial Day. More information can be found at https://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/redwood-city-apartment-complex-fire/4089868/.

The Taylor family was in the apartment when the fire broke out, were able to evacuate, and are physically fine, given the circumstances. While they have been able to enter their apartment to collect a few of their possessions, they believe the majority of their items are a loss due to smoke and water damage. They are currently staying with friends and figuring out next steps.

They have indicated that they have what they need emergently to care for themselves and their son, but need to figure out next steps in terms of a temporary residence and everyday items. We are collecting funds to assist them with those efforts.

It will continue to hurt for a while knowing we won't see Davin grow up in this home anymore, but I can promise you the smile on his face is still just as big as this photo suggests.

I can't thank you all enough for the incredible amount of support, kind messages, and offers of help that we've received over the last few days. It fills our heart with so much warmth to know that the community of people we've gotten to know and care about loves and cares for us just as much. We've received no less than 10 genuine offers for places to stay. Friends have lent us cars, clothes, toys and everything else we could need. Accepting help can sometimes feel like a hard thing to do, but having all of you show up for us in our time of need has really reinforced for us what life is all about.

Some good news and updates to share with everyone: It looks like both of our cars might be okay. They had been stuck in the garage underneath the building, but the fire didn't make it into the garage. The smoke smell is surprisingly light, and we think with some professional cleaning they should be alright. We were also able to get inside of our unit to grab some of our essentials: Phones, computers, passports, some clothes. Lots of things will not be worth recovering due to the smoke, but having a few things feels like a much better starting point as we think about the future.

We'll continue to stay with a few different friends over the next couple months while we look for the next place to call home. We feel so blessed to have this much support, and not have to rush into a new apartment that won't feel like home. Thanks again to all of you who have reached out, it really means so much to us.

Love,

Nevin, Taylor and Davin
