Little over 2 months ago we found out my father had to have a triple bypass done. He had 2 70% blockages and 1 100% blockage that they call the widow maker. The way we figured this all out was…. My father was at work a week prior of this. My Dad has been a paramedic for over 35+ years for YANCEY COUNTY EMS and he always worked in Mitchel County when he was younger and RTS in Asheville when I was a kid. My father is a very well known paramedic and he is my hero. My dad was at work one night and he felt really weird so he woke up one of his coworkers and they checked him out. My fathers heart was irregular, which in the correct terminology is Afib. His heart rate was fluctuating from 140 to 170 bpm. My mother came into my room and told me my father was going to the hospital. Ever since I was a baby, my father has never been in the hospital for himself. It was usually for me or my 2 other siblings. We get to the hospital and they start to get his afib under control but they want to send him to mission to get further testing. My mom, who I may add hasn’t left his side through any of this! They go to mission and they do chest X-rays, blood work, echos and other testing. They told my father he needed to have 2 stints put in with a heart cath. They go to do it and they found 3 blockages like I mentioned early. They told my father and called my mom who was in his room that they needed to do a triple bypass surgery on him ASAP. This was unexpected and heartbreaking to hear. My family was torn. On April 5th my father had his open heart surgery. Everything went good and he was progressing fine! We come home a week later. They have him on all sorts of medicine and my father rarely took medicine before this, just as I am the same way. After a few days my father starts to have more afib, so he goes back to the ER. His heart was still beating irregular and with just having open heart surgery his heart was already under enough stress. They decide to do an ablation on my father and try and get his afib gone. He came back home the day after and was feeling good, just super sore. The night he got home from the ablation he went back into afib. My father was just sitting in his chair and he can feel it. It makes him so weak. I am scared for my father, my hero. He is still in and out of afib but my dad is starting to get super weak, he’s barely eating and losing his color. He isn’t able to do his exercises to get stronger and back to healthy. The worries of him still having a fib is a harsh reality. He could possibly stroke out or have congested heart failure. We are reaching for better medical treatment and more pathways cause if this doesn’t get better my father will have to have a pacemaker. If he does that my father will not be able to continue his career as a paramedic for YANCEY COUNTY. My brother and I have been back for fourth to the hospital and our Gfs have been right there with us. My mother has stayed in the hospital with him every night and day and I have as well every chance I get with work and trying to help my mom and dad with bills, same thing for my brother who has been a big help too! I have never seen my father scared ever in his life, and I knew he was scared through all of this and still is. My father is a emotionally strong man and he is my best friend. We would be totally lost without my father. I’m so lost for words and our hands are tied. Bills and medical bills have been a struggle for us. I’m not asking for everything in the world but anything would help us. Please pray for my father Roger, I don’t wanna lose my dad. Please pray for my family as well.
