Several months ago, a stray dog found her way into Station 81. She had no collar or identification, but she quickly made herself at home and captured the hearts of our firefighters and medics. Over time, she became a source of comfort and joy to our crews, almost a therapy dog in her own right.

She has a unique routine: every morning, she walks our employees to their cars as they leave for the day, then returns to the apparatus bay to wait patiently for the next person to head out. Her presence has brought a remarkable sense of warmth and companionship to the station.

Recently, our personnel had started pooling funds to install an electric fence to keep her safe and out of the roadway. Unfortunately, before this could be completed, she was struck by a vehicle and sustained injuries, including what appears to be a broken leg.

We were able to have her scanned and discovered she has a microchip registered to a previous owner in California. After contacting them, we learned that due to medical reasons they are not able to care for her any longer. We are now working through the complicated process of transferring ownership so she can officially belong to our fire department family.

In the meantime, we took her to a veterinarian in The Woodlands, who confirmed she has a broken leg and will likely require surgery soon. The estimated cost is around $3,000. However, we are struggling to find another veterinarian willing to provide a second opinion or treatment since we are not yet the registered owners.

Any funds raised beyond her medical needs will be donated to the Montgomery County Animal Shelter in her name.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any assistance or guidance you can provide.

Cookie Update:

Cookie left for surgery this morning — as you can see in the photo, she was hoping we wouldn’t recognize her! She arrived safe and sound with the wonderful team at Western Hills Animal Medical & Surgical Clinic in Montgomery.

Her surgery was delayed for a few hours today after the vet noticed some concerns in her blood work and wanted to take a chest X-ray before proceeding. Cookie is now in surgery, and we’re praying for the best possible outcome.

The support and love from everyone has been overwhelming and deeply appreciated. It’s amazing how much this sweet dog has touched the lives of so many people. ❀️

Cookie has truly become quite the mental health expert — spreading comfort, calm, and smiles wherever she goes!

Cookie Marie Update

Today, Cookie went for a car ride to get her blood work done in preparation for her surgery tomorrow. The wonderful staff at Western Hills Animal Medical and Surgical Clinic were patiently waiting for her arrival. Cookie, of course, greeted everyone with her usual love and charm—sharing plenty of affection with both the staff and a few people in the waiting area.

The highlight of her day came when she returned to the Station. Montgomery County Hospital District Medic-6 was temporarily assigned to Station 81, giving Cookie the chance to visit with the medics and soak up some extra love before they were dispatched to another call. The residents of Montgomery County are truly blessed to have such dedicated and caring medics.

Suzie: God bless you all—we’ll keep you posted.

πŸ’– Thank You for the Overwhelming Support for Cookie Maire!

You have no idea how much your kindness has touched the hearts of our Firefighters and Medics. ❀️

Cookie will be seeing a veterinarian this morning on Highway 105 West in Montgomery for a second opinion and possibly surgery. We’ve also been contacted by several wonderful veterinarians throughout Montgomery County — thank you all for reaching out and offering your help!

Chip transfer paperwork has been filed to officially make Cookie a member of our department family. 🐾

As many of you suggested, we’ll be installing fencing to help keep her safe on the property. Our Firefighters and Medics have even started a station pool to make this happen.
