My Mission is to help children grow their minds and excitement building a strong desire to be curious about, explore and care for the world through fun reading and rhymes. The World is a wondrous place!
I put my passions, experiences, creativity, love for nature and kiddos together, and a myriad of ideas, characters, rhymes, books, and a plan poured out of me. I am a mother to a positive and nature loving 10-year-old boy. One of our favorite things to do is read together at night before bedtime. A tradition for the last decade that we both cherish. I hope to pass along worthy, fun and informational books for you and your family's reading routine.
I grew up in Tucson, Arizona with 4 sisters. At 21, I moved to Anchorage, Alaska to start anew, that is where I got my break in radio while trying to figure out who I was and who I wanted to be. I have now been a local radio DJ in Alaska, Oregon, Idaho and now Arizona over the last 16 years. While working with major marketing and communication companies in the country I have also specialized in voice over work, writing, public speaking, marketing, management, ecommerce, and sales. For the past year I have volunteered in the pediatrics department at a local nonprofit hospital (Tucson Medical Center). Every week I engage, play, read to and overall make the children in the hospital have as happy and positive of an experience as possible. I am passionate about helping little ones smile, grow, and develop curious minds.
Sandy the Saguaro (suh-waa-row) and Her Desert Friends is a beautifully detailed full color illustrated nonfiction rhyming book. Sandy is a saguaro who grows up in the desert. In this book children and parents will have a fun time learning how saguaros live, how they develop and about the world and creatures around them.
There are more nonfiction nature books to follow. I am starting with Sandy the Saguaro and Her Desert Friends because I grew up in the Sonoran Desert. Having lived in other states, I was surprised how many people didn't know what a saguaro was or much about the desert at all. This book is also dedicated to my late grandmother Sandy who taught me to always be authentically myself and truly care about the betterment of others.
Pointed West Publishing LLC: Starting with “Nature World” a 11 book series from the perspective of animals and plants growing up and interacting with each other and exploring the world around them - highlighting creatures, plants, landscape, and weather in various habitats. Each book ends with 4 to 6 'Did You Know?' fact pages with real photos of the main character and a reference page showing the specific creatures they were introduced to in the book. Readers and children will connect with the illustrated character version and immediately correlate it with photos and more facts about the real thing.
Sandy the Saguaro and Her Desert Friends is just the beginning, here are future books I have planned...
- Owen the Octopus and His Ocean Friends
- Molly the Macaw and Her Rainforest Friends
- Ben the Bear and His Mountain Friends
- Emma the Elephant and Her Savanna Friends
- Titus the Tiger and His Jungle Friends
- Pepper the Penguin and Her Arctic Friends
- Brittany the Butterfly and Her Flying Friends
- Raindrop Rylee and His Trip Around the Earth
- Sam the Seed and His Growth to a Tree
- Moon Max and His Nighttime Pals
Shannon Belock, my illustrator is a friend I have known since middle school. She is talented and I loved watching her bring these characters to life in such a compelling, artistic, lifelike and beautiful way.
I have put a lot of work and personal finances into building my LLC, establishing this book along with writing and planning future books and working with and paying my illustrator. I have been a single full time hard working mama for 7 years now and have bigger goals and asperations and having the dream of these books becoming a reality is one of them. I have tapped out my personal financial resources and need help raising printing costs, packaging costs and distribution costs to really get this and future titles in the hands of little ones. I have multiple ecommerce platforms set up to sell the books as well as some Arizona physical stores that are wanting to sell the book. Once I have printed copies in hand I will negotiate with bigger stores and national brand stores like Barnes and Noble to also carry this book and future titles. Since it is a non-fiction learning children's book I want to get the book and future books in schools, libraries and children's hospitals for entertainment and education.
Here are some sample pages from the book:

Your donations will give you the warm fuzzy feeling of knowing you are helping a hard working mother launch her dream of publishing meaningful, educational, artistic and fun children's books.
