Honoring Julie's Legacy: Julie Weckstein was a dedicated Social Worker and advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community. She left a huge mark on all who knew her. Her passion and commitment to supporting this community was truly inspiring.
During her time at UC Davis Medical Center, she was dedicated to expanding people's awareness of LGBTQ+ needs and how to best help, support and advocate for them. She did this by co-hosting the first LGBTQ+ medical conference, creating the first LGBTQ+ hospital committee, organizing many LGBTQ trainings, volunteering at wellness fairs, and more.
In honor of Julie's work in this field, Three Rivers Counseling is proud to announce the establishment of the annual Julie Weckstein LGBTQIA+ Award and Training Fund. This program will continue Julie's legacy by equipping mental health professionals to better serve and support the LGBTQ+ community. The funds raised will be used to hold annual trainings for social workers and therapists who are on the front lines, working with the mental health needs of this community. Moreover, we will be awarding a yearly financial prize to an individual who exemplifies outstanding dedication and service to the LGBTQ+ community.
Before Julie died, I let her know I would be doing this in her name and she was happy this work was being continued. The next day, she sent $500 to start the fund.
For those who are looking for a way to contribute to and support the work Julie was so passionate about, you can donate here. The money will be used to help carry forward Julie's vision of education, empowerment, and advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community.
Together, we can continue Julie's important work and create a more inclusive and supportive environment for the LGBTQIA+ community. Thank you for your support!
