On September 8th 2021 my mom was diagnosed with a rare form of uveal melanoma (eye cancer) the tumor is very aggressive, unfortunately she will need enucleation surgery (They will have to remove her eye) and be replaced with a prosthetic. Only 5.5 people out of a million are diagnosed with it per year. People with this type of cancer only have a 53% survival rate. Unfortunately we live 210 miles from the nearest specialist. Next month my dad goes in for gallbladder removal surgery, so he will be out of work. Every few weeks they will need to make a trip to the specialist but due to my dad being out of work and covid, they won't have the finances to make each trip. My mom and dad want to limit the exposure to covid since they are both immune compromised. She goes back to the specialist on September 13th 2021 for a full body scan to make sure the cancer hasn't spread. She will need to make several trips there and back between now and November of 2021, since the specialist is so far away they will need to stay over night in a hotel. Between gas, a hotel, and food, there's no way they could make every trip. It is very essential that she gets to every appointment.
