Hi! My name is Cepriana. I am a prior Indiana National Guard Soldier and wear that title proudly. During my time of service, I was able to experience the camaraderie and selflessness of the men and women who show up to work everyday, ensuring the readiness of the local Northwest Indiana National Guard Units to be able to answer the call at any point in time.
With that being said, it is not a known fact that there are Active Guard Reserve and Military Technicians. A military technician is a federal civilian employee who also serves as a member of the military, typically in the Army Reserve or National Guard. This dual-status role requires them to maintain both their civilian job and their military membership as a condition of employment. They provide continuity for their military units by handling a wide variety of support roles, such as maintenance, administration, and supply, and also deploy with their units when called.
Both of these positions have been affected by the government shutdown. Many have been told to show up to work regardless, to ensure readiness. With no end in sight and honestly the holidays approaching quick, I feel the need for us to come together to show the support that they show us. That’s them showing up to work, even if that means they don’t receive their money for food, gas, mortgage, and utilities.
My goal is to raise money to disperse via gas and grocery gift cards locally. After making an initial post on Facebook, I’ve had service members reach out asking for help. Along with the gift cards, I plan on giving an information sheet regarding other local resources that can be of assistance.
I know times are tough right now for everyone, but if you could atleast share this fundraiser, send me a message with a resource, or even just have a message you want to pass along, that will be worth as much as money. I appreciate all your help and support, and so do they!
