My daughter and I lost our home of eight years after an extensive slumlord situation last November.
We were given cash for keys and I expected maybe a week of shelter before we were on the street, but at the very last minute, an Airbnb was booked for us for two months. The plan was for me to use a GoFundMe these folks started to help the person whose credit card was used pay the bill since I was kind of large. They didn't even give me two weeks to catch my breath and get situated before I was treated like I was trying to snake them on the bill because I started my own GFM for materials so I could continue my veterinary tech cert and my daughter could continue her virtual classes and we had needs outside of just shelter that also had to be covered.
We spent much of the winter in squalid places and sleeping in a truck. I got pregnant again and just had the baby a few days ago.
We have a week at the current hotel we've been at for about a month then we have nowhere to go. I had preexisting disabilities and am further debilitated by recovering from birth. A friend was here helping me for about two months but is out of money and also disabled and needs to go home and recuperate.
This hotel literally has an active infestation and has been unfairly nitpicking clutter, most of which they decided was a problem as I was actively in labor and being wheeled off on a stretcher and has said one more strike and they will kick me out with a newborn and child, in spite of the fact we're paid up and if they actually looked closely the roaches are under control in this room because we literally came in spraying because they were even crawling in the beds.
I have a connective tissue disorder, a demanding newborn, more stuff than I can even carry, an autistic eight yesr old, no hands on help and we're right next door to where Trump has decided to crack down on unhoused populations. We have about six days to avoid being outside and in a world of shit.
These cheap hotels have been terrible to us because the long stsys and amount of belongings we have on us make our homelessness obvious. This would cover a residential rental for two weeks where we wouldn't be subject to constant scrutiny and threats of getting kicked out in spite of paying.
