SHEEP IN THE CITY
We are raising funds to once again host sheep in our unique and historic grounds within the wall of Saint Patrick’s Basilica on Mott Street! Three sheep, will be spending part of September and October with us and we are so excited to have them back in the neighborhood.
HOW MUCH?
Sheep don’t come cheap! We must raise a minimum of $3,200 to cover the costs of bringing the sheep to New York City. These costs include but are not limited to:
Veterinary Costs: $1,200
Supplemental Feed and Hay: $500
Sheep with transportation to and from: $1,500
Total $3,200
Any additional funds raised in this campaign will be designated directly to landscaping costs to improve the cemetery, a historical gem in the center of Nolita. For specific budget and any questions please contact Frank Alfieri at frank@oldcathedral.org
WHY “SHEEP IN THE CITY”?
We started hosting sheep here at St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral in 2014. During CoVid we had to suspend it. Since the response of our community to having sheep grazing on our grassy grounds was overwhelmingly positive, we're bringing them back!
The sheep provide a sustainable method of “mowing” the grass by their grazing, thus eliminating the need for loud, gasoline powered mowers. The sheep provide a “natural fertilizer” rather than chemical-laden fertilizers and weed-killers that poison the earth. Sheep in the City promote beauty and well-being by amplifying the historic atmosphere of our gorgeous Church and grounds established in 1815, and provide a peaceful respite from the busyness and chaos of city living.
Help us bring our sheep to the city by uniting as a neighborhood and community around this wonderful project!
