My sister and her family have been displaced by the Spokane-area fires and are currently living together in a single bedroom—my sister, her husband, their 10-year-old son, and their three pets. When they had to leave, she only had time to grab a couple of outfits, and they have now spent a week making do with the few things they were able to take with them. Because their family has food allergies, simply buying meals while displaced can be difficult and risky, adding another challenge to an already overwhelming situation.
The fires are still burning, with no rain in the forecast, and they don’t yet know when it will be safe to return home. We are incredibly thankful that their home is still standing, especially knowing that so many families have suffered devastating losses. However, when they are finally able to return, they don’t know what repairs or replacements will be necessary. Electricity and water are currently out, ash is everywhere, and the food they had stored has been lost.
I’m starting this fundraiser to help ease some of the immediate financial burden of being displaced and to help them begin putting their home and lives back together when they are finally able to return. Any contribution, no matter the amount, will help—and if you aren’t able to donate, sharing this fundraiser would mean just as much to our family.
