Hello, my name is Maria and I am a 30 year old disabled woman who's worked my way from being totally dependant on SSI to holding a full time job and fully supporting my family over the Covid Worker Shortages.
I currently make $23.50 an hour and while I qualify for apartments around Washington I only qualify for apartments that rent between $1000-$1400 which currently means living in a roach infested 500 sq ft 1 bedroom with my 5 year old son.
Many people I know make considerably less than myself, since the states minimum wage is $15.45 an hour and I think it's really not fair that none of us can afford decent housing with room for our kids to play or that even has reliable laundry rooms.
What I want to do is raise money to start low income housing villages in Washington state in Pierce, King, and Thurston County (those are the counties with the highest rates of homelessness)
Washington State recently changed zoning laws so that there will be more Duplexes, fourplexes and other housing options in areas that have traditionally only been zoned for Single Family Homes.
As somebody with a lot of experience in housekeeping and yard maintenance I have the skills to upkeep Apartment units and I've learned the industry standard for caring for residential/hotel units.
I would like to put down a down payment on a chunk of property (in any of the aforementioned counties will need between $15K-$30k) and start a low income tiny village. Depending on how fast I raise up the money/where I find property really depends on the type of housing I'd be able to build but currently I am planning a tiny house village made out of Home Depot Prefab tiny houses ($13K prefab tiny home) that has a community rec center, community garden, laundry room with traditional laundry machines that don't take payment per wash.
- 6 tiny houses ($78K)
- 1 barn to make into community center/laundry room( $14K home Depot Prefab barn)
- 3 combined washer dryers ($2K washer dryer combos)
- Electrical wiring/plumbing/septic ($15K)
Everything comes out to about $113K (excluding the down payment on the property)
The village will be fair and will not discriminate against prospective tenants for any reasons besides violent sex crimes.
The village will also accept section 8 housing vouchers and SSI.
We will allow pets.
Once I have my first village up I'll immediately start saving for a second. I want to help solve the housing crisis
