Help Shalom Begin Her Next Chapter After Stage IV Cancer
To everyone who has prayed for Shalom, checked in on her, encouraged her, supported our family, and stood beside her throughout her battle with Stage IV cancer: thank you. There are truly no words big enough to express what your love and support have meant to Shalom and to our entire family.
After an incredibly difficult journey through chemotherapy, hospitalizations, appointments, uncertainty, and recovery, we are so grateful to now be entering a new chapter with our girl. As many families who have experienced cancer know, the impact extends far beyond treatment itself. Navigating a childhood cancer diagnosis takes an enormous emotional, physical, and financial toll on the entire family. There are medical bills, ongoing recovery needs, transportation and daily expenses, and periods when parents and caregivers are unable to work because their priority must be being present for their child.
Throughout it all, our focus has been simple: give Shalom everything she needs to heal, recover, feel like herself again, and have the opportunity to build the future she dreams of. And that future has already been profoundly shaped by what she experienced. Shalom has decided that one day she wants to become a Pediatric Cancer & Oncology Nurse so she can give other children the same compassion and care that was given to her.
In her own words:
“What I went through in the course of my treatment has changed the person in me and things I wish for my life. I would like to become a Pediatric Cancer & Oncology Nurse to enable me return the help I received from the cancer & oncology team at Phoenix Children's Hospital during the course of my Chemotherapy treatment & hospitalization to other kids & children that are battling with various cancers and blood disorders.”
To hear her come out of this experience wanting to dedicate her future to helping other children facing cancer is something we are incredibly proud of. Now, as Shalom moves beyond treatment, our family is preparing for everything that comes next: supporting her continued recovery, managing the financial impact of her cancer journey, helping our family regain stability after months of putting everything else aside, and making sure Shalom has every opportunity to pursue the beautiful future she is already dreaming about.
