Kolyn is a 28 year old who has epilepsy and learning disability ( IQ 64).
Aug21-Sept1 he was hospitalized for acute pancreatitis. Had gallbladder removed.
Sept 15 returned to ER. Sepsis, necrotizing fasciitis and a blood clot in portal vein.
Oct 14 transferred by ambulance to Albany Medical Center 2 hours away from home.
Albany Medical Center does their own work up. They find that a drain placed in his left side of his abdomen was pushed through his colon( which has lead to him needing an ostomy bag)and was leaking stool in his abdomen. That he has a blood clot. That he is septic. That he has BLAKPC ( worse than MRSA). Necrotizing fasciitis of the pancreas. Infection of gluteus maximus ( caused by our local hospital letting him sit in his own urine and facial matter).on Oct 25 he has the stent put in for his pancreas to drain into his stomach ( the original reason he was transferred here). That his kidneys are starting to fail due to all the infection in his abdomen( they started him on dialysis). Because of the pressure on his abdomen and chest from abdominal infection he was struggling to breath ( intubated and sedated).
Kolyn’s condition is leaving him unable to speak or care for himself. His parents which are part of his support group and health care proxy are currently in Albany with him. However they are in need and of help paying for housing to remain in Albany with him. They have been told this is a very long process and he could be here months. One parent is on disability( can’t drive because of having a Subarachnoid hemorrhage). The other parent is retired.
Any donation no matter how small would be greatly appreciated.
As of October 26, 2023 Kolyn remains in ICU intubated/ sedated and unaware of the 4 operations that he has had so far. Nor does he know about the ostomy bag.
All of this could have been avoided if our local hospital had started looking for a hospital to transfer him to once they knew he need a procedure not offered at our local our local hospital.
Thank You in advance ,
Kolyn’s Support Team
