I live in Fort Smith, Arkansas, with my incredible companion, Theodore Jefferson, or TJ, as I affectionately call him. TJ is a 4-year-old Bohemian Shepherd mix who has been by my side since he was just a tiny bundle, arriving from the Czech Republic at only two months old. He’s not just a pet; he's my certified mobility and psychiatric service dog. TJ assists me every day, smelling biochemical changes to preempt panic attacks and helping me navigate life with a physical disability. His dedication goes beyond what words can capture, and I can't imagine facing these challenges without him.
Recently, TJ developed a concerning mass that requires surgical removal and biopsy to rule out cancer. Additionally, while he’s under anesthesia, he'll need a comprehensive dental cleaning, an IDEXX blood panel, and a heartworm check. The post-surgery care, including medications like Gabapentin and Trazodone, and his recovery cone, are vital for his healing. As someone living on a fixed disability income, the quote of over $1,174 from Vetco Total Care feels insurmountable. Yet, TJ has given me so much—his heart, his strength, his unwavering presence. Now, it's my turn to ensure he gets the care he deserves.
