As many of you know based on my FB post I had a law firm contact me regarding a copyrighted image used on my website from 2017, it was a banner promoting SXSW, but the banner had an image that was copyrighted by Reuters. Reuters has a law firm that pursues its copyrighted images. After much research and negotiations, I settled and Lani paid the fee.
Lani exhausted due diligence and contacted all the people; SX, photographers that may know about this type of lawsuit, and even the photographer that took the picture. All were willing to help, but their hands were tied because Reuters owns the copyrighted image in its entirety.
The law firm has sent all the documentation & power of attorney and everyone on it checks out & it's all legit, it's not a fraud or scam. They own the image entirely & even though it was used by my community-based website, it's a copyright infringement. It’s cheaper to pay than to hire a Lawyer & waste any more time. Thank you to all those who reached out & all those who helped me, the folks at SXSW, and photographer friends!
When I mentioned this on FB a friend suggested I set up a “go fund me” to help recoup the expenses paid to the law firm. So here were are, all help is appreciated. ♥️
