This is my first year at Excel Academy Public School for Girls, located in Berry Farms, Washington DC. This school is a low performing school where 100% of students are low income, underserved, under resourced, and thus, not prepared for success in college and/or career. Our student population is severely at-risk.
The girls have not had a consistent science teacher in years. I am honoured and excited to cultivate a love for science in each one of our girls, in hopes that they will one day positively change the world in which we live.
Yesterday, I asked my assistant principal if I had a science budget. Sadly, she laughed in my face.
In order to invest this amazing girls in their education, they have to be incentivized. I have to have enough materials to actually be able to teach them. I would love to provide them with the best possible resources in science, but I cannot without a budget.
This money will support me in being able to get:
1. science lab materials for the entire school year
2. Pencils
3. Pens
4. incentives
5. paper
6. notebooks
7. posters
8. scissors
9. markers
10. color pencils
12. glue sticks
...and other materials that will make this a great year. Please support me and my girls and I will be sure to provide you all with an update throughout the year. You will see all of the amazing things we will accomplish with our girls.
Thank you.
