Hey yall
I'm Kelsey. I'm an artist organizer baddie scholar from South East San Diego. I do a lot of dope shit around dreaming and creative community building. I put on for my community and I'm a firm believer in the life saving magic of mutual aid.
And I've put off making this campaign because the past 2 years have been a journey community showing up and it starts to feel burdensome. For those unaware, I have not had stable housing since July 2021 and I've lived in hotels, air BNBs and have had brief stints staying with friends and family. I have also not had a stable job since April of this year and had been surviving off of savings, community care and creative work.
I recently had a car accident that blew through the last of my savings and severely impacted my mental and physical health. I am not in the space to seek full-time work at the moment and do not qualify for disability. Prior to the accident, I was already aware of the signs of burnout and had been considering what would need to be necessary to truly prioritize my health and housing. The accident has shown me that my desire for rest is worthy and necessary while also putting me in a space where rest feels inaccessible because I have to strategize around how to survive.
This fund will allow me to truly center my holistic recovery and not have to exist in a state of hypervigilance as I address all aspects of my health. It will also allow me to prioritize long-term stable housing. I have plans to move out of San Diego in 2023 to root myself somewhere financially sustainable but in the interim I need to be able to pay my parents rent and eventually rent a room somewhere in the county.
I look forward to what the future holds and am grateful for your consideration.
Because I know mutual aid is much more than just financial support I have also created a google doc that details other ways people can show up - bit.ly/KelseyDeservesKelsey
I'm also doing an e-chapbook giveback to anyone who donates or has already donated over $10 - you can find more info on that here
