I’m thankful that I’m not writing this because of a death, a devastating accident, or any other life-changing tragedy.
I’m writing this because of something far more common: life.
To say life has been life’n lately would be an understatement. I’ve never been one to use my medical history as an excuse, but I’d be lying if I said there aren’t days that are just really, really hard. Crazy to think and even crazier to say that disability is hard work.
No one needs the long, drawn-out story of how I got here. The reality is simple. My cars are on the verge of being repossessed. My phones are about to be disconnected. An eviction notice might as well be posted tomorrow.
I know I’m not alone. More people than ever are struggling just to keep their heads above water. I also know some people may read this and think, “The audacity.”
If I have anything to say to that, it would simply be, “The necessity.”
Asking for help doesn’t come naturally to me. In fact, it’s one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. But sometimes strength isn’t pretending everything is okay—it’s admitting when you can’t do it alone.
If you’re in a position to help, whether it’s through a donation or simply by sharing this campaign, please know that I will never take your kindness for granted. I will carry gratitude for you in my heart for the rest of my life.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for reminding me that even when life feels impossibly heavy, there are still people willing to help someone else stand back up.
