My daughter and her emotional support chickens are in need of your help! After being given information on the path to chicken ownership by a board member of their HOA, she built a small coop and obtained hens which provided profound relief to her PTSD symptoms. The HOA in turn filed a lawsuit against her and her husband, an Iraqi Freedom combat veteran, to remove the chickens and coop even after being provided with all of the necessary medical documentation required under the law and knowing that another neighbor also had chickens and a coop. They were left with no choice but to fight back and protect their rights under the FHA and NJLAD laws, personally spending upwards of $60k to fight this litigation which is now in appeals court.
During this appeal, if they do not remove the chickens and their coop, they are required to pay $50/day fines to the HOA as well as additional legal fees to continue this battle.
The money used from this crowdfunding will be used to pay for litigation costs/legal fees and imposed fines. It will also be used to pay down the debt incurred during these lawsuits and any other unexpected legal and/or related expenses that arise.
Any surplus funds will be donated to fund lawsuits by other disabled persons facing animal related legal needs.
