Maya Watson is a homegrown Third Ward-based Visual Artist and Arts Educator at Booker T. Washington H.S. Her home caught fire, destroying almost all of her and her daughter's possessions.
We are heartbroken that a lifetime of her Artwork was lost in this fire. Only a few Art pieces were able to be salvaged. Praise God that her life and daughter's life were saved because they were not home, but they must replace EVERYTHING. She has insurance, but it will take time to process and still will not cover everything they need.
Maya is one of my dearest friends, so I have organized this fundraiser for us to help Maya through this tough time. Any amount will help Maya to begin to rebuild. Collectively we can make a difference. So I am asking you to join our effort to show Maya and her daughter, Samaya, that we love them and are here to help them make it through this difficult time.
