About Friends of Finn:
Founded in 2010 by Amanda Hearst, Friends of Finn (FoF) is a group of young leaders dedicated to working with The Humane Society of the United States' Stop Puppy Mills campaign to put an end to the inhumane treatment of dogs in puppy mills and advocate pet adoption. Across the U.S., approximately 2 million dogs originating from puppy mills are sold annually and 2 million dogs are euthanized each year in shelters. The solution is simple: Adopt don't shop! Stopping the sale of puppy mill dogs in pet stores or online will not only close off markets for inhumane puppy mills, it will encourage the public to acquire dogs from shelters, rescues, and responsible breeders.
About Puppy Mills:
Puppy mills are inhumane commercial dog breeding facilities that may sell puppies in pet stores, online, or directly to the public (in flea markets or via classified ads). Puppy mills disregard the dogs' health -both physical and emotional- to maximize profits. An estimated 10,000 puppy mills exist in the U.S. Fewer than 3,000 of these are regulated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Puppy mills contribute to pet overpopulation and cause countless dogs lifetimes of suffering in squalid wire cages. Help stop the cycle of cruelty by encouraging people to do research before getting a puppy and look into adopting a dog from a local shelter or rescue.
To date, Friends of Finn has raised more than $2 million to fight this industry and help pet stores concert from selling puppies to partnering with animal shelters.
