Help Amber Find a Safe Place to Live
Goal: $12,000
My friend Amber needs help, and I'm hoping some kind strangers on the internet can come through for her.
Amber lives with a neurological disorder that requires daily support. Her husband was supposed to be her caretaker, the person she trusted to help her get through life with her condition. Instead, he used her vulnerability against her.
For years, he put her through every kind of abuse you can imagine. He beat her. He forced himself on her. He tore her down emotionally until she didn't recognize herself anymore. He controlled all the money and made sure she had no credit, nothing in her own name. Physical, sexual, emotional, financial. All of it. She couldn't leave because she had nowhere to go, no way to get there, and no one else to help with her medical needs. That's exactly how he wanted it.
He was finally arrested last week for violating his parole, and Amber has a small window to get somewhere safe before he gets out.
Right now she's living in a camper with no electricity and no running water. She's surviving, but barely. The camper is hers, and if we can raise enough money, she can move it somewhere with hookups and actually have a real place to live. If that doesn't work out, she'll need first and last month's rent somewhere safe.
Here's what the money would cover:
Moving the trailer or a rental deposit: around $5,000
Getting utilities turned on: $1,500
Food, toiletries, basics she doesn't have: $1,000
A little cushion for things that come up: $2,500
I know that's a lot to ask. But Amber has been through hell and she's finally ready to build a life on her own terms. She's not looking for a fortune. She just needs a safe place with running water and lights that turn on.
If you can give $20, give $20. If all you can do is share this, please share it. Amber doesn't have a big network anymore. He made sure of that. So she's counting on the kindness of people she's never met.
Thank you for reading this. Thank you for caring about a stranger.
