If you know Tate & Kasey, you know their two sweet kiddos Amelia & Elliott. Yesterday (5/7) their family found out that Elliott has a sizeable brain tumor that needs immediate removal. He is having drains surgically placed today (5/8) to release the pressure and fluid build up and will then have the tumor surgically removed on Monday 5/11. Elliott is expected to be in Pediatric ICU as of today and continuing for the next 2+ weeks.

Their family is asking for prayers above all else. Prayers for Elliott as he goes through these tests and procedures. Prayers for Amelia as she finishes her kindergarten year and is trying to understand what is happening as best as she can. Prayers for Tate and Kasey. That they can take turns being strong & that their marriage & faith in God is made stronger.

Both Tate and Kasey are taking time off work and it is currently unknown when they will return. If you would like to help monetarily, this will be an easy way for them to access those funds to relieve financial stress so they can fully focus on Elliott right now.

If you would like to participate/contribute to their meal train, here is that link: https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/ked6e0

Thank you all for your prayers and support of the Orlik Hill Family.

Elliott’s 3rd & final stem cell reinfusion took place on Friday 10/30 and went seamlessly! He’s officially done with chemo too - what huge celebrations! We are now in the waiting stage for a couple weeks and hope to head home around the end of next week. He’s antsy to get back home but is such a trooper though the extended isolation stays here at the hospital. Please continue to pray that the chemo has done its job and eradicated every microscopic cancer cell from his body.

We all LOVED being home together! From walks to the park, pumpkin carving, early trick or treating in our neighborhood, couch snuggles, and everything in between.

We readmitted yesterday for our FINAL round of Elliott’s high dose chemo with stem cell rescue! All four of us felt the weight of coming into this again, because it’s so hard on each of us, but also came into it with some big excitement about being DONE!

The day was much rougher than we expected. The catheter placement took three separate attempts and Elliott just kept crying “please stop nurses!” A second dose of verced (a mild sedative frequently used in preop) and some numbing cream and they finally got it placed. However, due to the delay in the catheter placement…the chemo they had ready expired so we had to wait for pharmacy to remake it. They finally got it sent back up and started around 10:40pm and we did our first bath and central line cleaning at 3:15am. These will now continue into late Thursday night/early Friday morning, every 6 hours.

As far as what comes next after treatment - we have been getting that vision in pieces. We know he will have weekly therapies (PT, OT & speech) and will have a scan done sometime after this treatment cycle and then every 3 months. We have been looking forward to this next chapter with so much excitement of being DONE & have started talking with him about getting to ring the bell too! 🔔

With the excitement of being done so close, I spoke with Dr Meeker about the timing of his central line removal. It’s sounding like they want to leave it in until after his first 3 month follow up scan. The reasoning being that there very likely could be progression of the cancer and if so, they would use the central line to sedate him for radiation treatment. We have always known that his current treatment plan was to "prevent or delay" radiation. We just didn't realize that was still a possibility with having his last set of scans show NED (no evidence of disease). We will continue to hope & pray that this treatment we have done allows him to stay in remission, but are feeling some heaviness about knowing we may not truly be "done."

Please continue to pray with us for this current hospital stay, and that Elliott is able to walk out and be in remission and STAY in remission. Pray for Tate and I as we navigate the fear of progression/relapse after believing we were at the finish line. Pray for Amelia to be reminded that she is still so important to us through everything. We have seen miracles already, and we know God’s not done yet.

We were able to discharge last Thursday - a whole day earlier than we believed was possible! Elliott is crushing this! We readmit for his FINAL ROUND OF CHEMO on 10/26. Until then, we are soaking in the family time. We had the best weekend carving pumpkins, playing at the park, and just being together.

He had two more “breath holding episodes” over the weekend but thankfully his team isn’t worried about them. It’s so scary when it happens, but can also be a common toddler occurrence when they get really mad.

We saw ophthalmology for another follow up this week too. They recommended that we start to patch his right eye. It covers the stronger eye to help the brain remember to use the “weaker” one. He will wear the patch for 2 hours a day for 4+ months to see if we can get his left eye to improve. The vision worsening that occurred a couple months ago has remained unchanged. It could have been from the previous brain pressure/optic nerve swelling (which still looks great now), or could just be genetic from me - I had to wear a patch as a kid as well. Hoping we see improvement and that the vision damage isn’t permanent. 🙏🏼

My. Whole. Heart! ♥️♥️♥️♥️

Tate asked our oncologist if Amelia could come by for just a little this weekend. He said YES!!!! The best little visit ever. All 4 of us in the same room for the first time in 2 weeks. Absolutely filled my cup.

Here’s to hoping we can make counts and be home for next weekend 🙏🏼

Stem cell reinfusion is done & went seamlessly! He managed to stay awake despite the Benadryl this time and had all sorts of questions about the process. Such a smart and curious boy.

His thiotepa precautions ended last night which means no more 2am/8am/2pm/8pm showers and he’s able to wear regular clothes again. He was so glad to have that over with!! He fevered earlier this week and had a day or so of feeling pretty crummy, but thankfully is back to being our silly and spunky little guy.

Once again, we are so grateful for our care team and modern medicine making it so that we have this treatment available.
