We often keep our personal lives pretty quiet and don’t ask anyone for anything, but today we are in a position in which we are requesting your help. For those of you who do not know, in April 2019, my wife Danyelle was diagnosed with stage 2 cancer and underwent surgery and radiation for her treatment. She had been staying the course and everything was going well. In 2020, I tragically lost my mother to stage 4 pancreatic cancer which delivered a tremendous blow to our family, but we continued to march on. For years, Danyelle has been following up with her doctors and getting her scheduled imaging, and everything was going great so we thought.
In June 2023 she developed a bad cough for which she sought medical treatment at our local urgent care center and was told she had pneumonia. After receiving treatment, she was not feeling better and returned to urgent care and was referred to the emergency room because her previous scan had not improved and the provider wanted her to have an updated CT scan. In August 2023, her CT scan revealed multiple lung nodules concerning for spread of cancer. She had a biopsy and PET CT which confirmed her breast cancer had spread to both lungs and her spine. She was placed on medication including oral chemotherapy. Her repeat scan in December looked improved, so we stayed the course of therapy.
In January of 2024, she started to develop shortness of breath when walking and was struggling to do daily activities. In February she went to see her lung doctor and was told she needs to be put on oxygen to improve her breathing. She had a follow up scan in March that showed her disease had become worse and the treatment plan was no longer working for her. She would have to undergo traditional chemotherapy. Unfortunately, this is not the information we wanted to receive, but we kept pressing on. The transition from oral chemo to traditional chemo was extremely hard because she had to come off her old oral medication for a week in order to start the new medication. Her cough increased during that week and her breathing and physical abilities also decreased but we kept moving on. Her first Chemo appointment which was on 3/29/2024 went well. She did not have any side effects and she seemed to be breathing better until this Monday 4/1/2024. She started not feeling well and her cough and breathing got worse. She was so weak she had to be transported by ambulance and was admitted and has been there ever since. She was diagnosed with having air pockets in her lungs on top of everythingelse. She is being treated and trying to get better day by day. I came to a conclusion that we really need help with this because our new and recurring bills and life are getting expensive and hectic.
We have decent health insurance, but unfortunately it does not cover all of the costs we must pay in and out of the hospital. We have actually had a $5000 prescription bill and $400-500 copays each visit for some procedures that had to be done. Our bills have soured in the last 6 months and will continue to rise while she seeks treatment. She has been forced to take medical leave from work and is receiving short-term disability collecting 60% or her pay. Unfortunately, I have had to reduce my work position to PRN to help get her to and from her appointments, which has been a significant hit to our financial stability. We are looking to get assistance to help us get back on our feet and stay on our feet so we can take care of our daughters and whatever else may come up while she continues her battle. Right we could use your help to do so. We appreciate all blessings and prayers they will and have helped. At this time we need monetary blessings also and word of mouth. If everyone can repost and send this out to others and promote this movement for her it would be greatly appreciated.
We appreciate you taking the time to read our request and hope you are able to make a donation if not lets get the word out.
Thanks in advance for your contribution,
Ian and Danyelle Lopez
