My aunt Betty (Elizabeth Johnson) co-founded METCO. And, for 45 years, the Weston METCO Scholarship Fund has played an important role in the lives of scholarship recipients that benefit from the needs-based financial support it provides. The WMSF facilitates the realization of the hopes and dreams in areas of business, politics, the arts, culture, medicine, education and the law.
Since its founding during the peak of the Civil Rights Movement, the METCO program has enrolled tens of thousands of Boston students of color in predominantly white school districts, luke Weston, creating the opportunity for students in those districts to experience the advantages of learning and working in a racially and ethnically diverse setting.
The Weston METCO scholarship fund is 45 years old. Making Weston one of the founding schools to participate in the mission of METCO.
We can all be proud to support METCO: our nation's largest, and oldest voluntary school desegregation program!
Now, on the occasion of the graduating class of WHS 1983’s 40th reunion, we are spearheading an effort to give back to this worthy Weston-related charity in a meaningful way.
