💔 A Personal Story and a Hopeful Request 💔

Hello! My name is Alyx - I'm 32 years old, married to my wonderful husband, Jon, and the mother of three amazing children (Kohlson, Blake & Emerie) and we all need your help! Not necessarily for us - but for my mother.

Meet my mom, Mindy — the BEST mother, the most incredible Grammy & the strongest, kindest, and most resilient woman you’ll ever meet. In 2020, her life changed forever when medical negligence left her a paraplegic. Despite everything she’s faced, and continues to face, she’s handled it with more grace and courage than I could ever possibly put into words.

For the last several years, her incredible, loving, selfless boyfriend Brian has been her full-time caregiver while also working full-time, helping her navigate every challenge that’s come her way. Unfortunately, on October 14, 2025, Brian was involved in a horrific car accident and was airlifted to OSU, where he remains in the ICU. He suffered multiple fractures and traumatic injuries. His road to recovery will be very long, uncertain, and incredibly difficult — and sadly, it’s highly unlikely that he will ever be able to return to their home, or to caring for my mom again; he will likely need to remain in an inpatient facility.

Over the past few weeks, friends and I have been taking turns staying with my mom overnight, making sure she’s safe and cared for. But this is not a long-term solution. My heart tells me that the best thing I can do — the only thing I can do — is to move closer to her so I can be her full-time caregiver and ensure she’s never alone again.

My mom has worked so hard over the last five years to create a life that allows her to maintain some level of independence and autonomy, despite her condition. After everything she’s been through, she finally found the perfect home — one that’s fully accessible, comfortable, and truly hers. It’s where she feels safe and happy, and I want her to be able to stay there surrounded by love, support, and stability. While her home is absolutely perfect for her, it simply doesn’t have enough space for me, Jon, the kids, and our dogs — which makes it challenging for us to move in and provide the care and presence she now needs on a daily basis. We will need to add-on to the home, or build on the property.

Unfortunately, making this dream possible — being close enough to care for her while keeping her in the home she loves — is going to be an extremely costly process. From permits, to site preparation and construction to accessibility accommodations, every step adds up quickly. I’m typically not one to ask for help, and lord knows my mother isn't one to ever ask, but this is bigger than me. It’s about giving my mom the care, security, and peace she deserves after so many years of hardship.

If you’re able to donate, share, or even just send a prayer or few words of encouragement (for her, for us, and especially for Brian), it would mean the world to us. Every bit helps — truly.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who has already reached out, prayed, or offered support. My mom has always been the one who quietly gives to everyone else — and now, it’s our turn to give back to her.

With love and gratitude,
Alyx
