We all know and love April Flamer Harris. When we think of MaxLiving, we think of April. For so many of us, our MaxLiving journey has been touched by her kindness, encouragement, leadership, and unwavering dedication. Whether she has supported you directly, inspired you from behind the scenes, or simply been a familiar and trusted presence, April has made a lasting impact on countless lives within our community.
Today, April and her family need the same love and support that she has so generously given to others over the years. As they navigate an unexpected and challenging season, we have the opportunity to come together as a community and help carry some of the burden they are facing.
Recently, her six year old daughter, Journey received preliminary findings for retinoblastoma. Doctors have identified a large tumor in her right eye, and she has completely lost vision in that eye.
Over the past two weeks alone, Journey has been evaluated by five specialists, with many more appointments, tests, and procedures still ahead. Her upcoming care includes MRIs, surgeries, and continued evaluation by a team of specialists as they work to determine the most effective treatment plan.
As they navigate this difficult and uncertain journey, they are making frequent trips to Duke University for specialized medical care. These ongoing visits bring significant expenses, including travel, gas, parking, meals, lodging when necessary, and time away from work.
Through every appointment and challenge, Journey has shown extraordinary courage. Her doctors have repeatedly commented on her positive attitude, resilience, and remarkable strength. She continues to face each step of this process with a bravery that inspires everyone around her.
While we do not yet have all the answers, we are trusting God every step of the way and praying for wisdom, healing, and peace as we move forward.
