At Mother Mary’s Midwifery Services we believe every client should receive individualized, compassionate, equitable, continuity of care. Regardless of your race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, marital status, age, socioeconomic status, religion, size, disability etc. Midwifery led care should be available to all families, NOT just those with financial security. It has been on my heart for quite some time to make a fund that would help cover the cost to our lowest income families for prenatal care, labs, ultrasounds, parenting classes, birth fees(medical cost for OOH) and birth assistant fees, including but not limited to birth kits, rental birth pools/liners, breast pumps, etc. It would also help go towards the cost of immediate postpartum care, postpartum care (for six weeks after delivery) and newborn care (6 weeks from birth). Additional funding would be available for lactation support, nutrition counseling, hearing screens, etc. My goal is to have two separate funds one for our low income families struggling to pay for Midwifery services (not covered by insurance) and a separate fund, for our Mamas of Color! (black and indigenous in particular) You may be wondering why I would want to have a fund for our minority groups and that is because they are at a four-time greater risk of maternal and infant mortality and morbidity rate, than Caucasian clients. Systemic racism has flooded our hospitals for far too long! Women of color have not been prioritized in emergent situations or taken seriously for their pain or concerns, resulting in tragic and horrific outcomes. It’s time to change this! We need to fight for our black mamas and babies until these numbers change. As a health care provider, I REFUSE to sit back and do nothing about these injustices. It’s time to be a part of the solution! Contribute today and empower a mother’s right to birth.
