I’m Destiny, I am the mother of Scarlett, the most beautiful, smart, kind, intelligent little girl who has gone through so much in her little life. The last 6 years have not been easy for us, while my life has changed significantly in that time, Scarlett and I have been faced with things no mother and child should ever have to go through, the trauma we have endured and conquered is tremendous, however last July a journey for custody began. And now I am faced with the task of retaining a lawyer, at the suggestion of my friends I have made this fundraiser.
I filed this custody case myself back in April because I couldn’t afford an attorney. Since then I’ve done all of it alone, every filing, every hearing, every piece of paperwork, teaching myself as I went because my daughter’s safety couldn’t wait for me to figure out how to afford help. Legal aid turned me down. Even the judge overseeing my case recommended I get a lawyer, that’s how serious this has become.
My next hearing is August 13 and it will decide Scarlett’s custody for the long term. I’m asking the people who know me, who’ve watched me fight for her every single day, to help me walk into that courtroom with real representation behind me. She deserves a stable home. She deserves a mom who had the same resources to fight for her that the other side has.
