A Hand Up for a Lifeline: Keeping a Family Legacy on the Road

Hello, kind hearts. My name is Peter, and I am reaching out today not for a handout, but for a "hand up" to keep my small but vital world moving.

A Gift of Love and Survival My car is much more than just a piece of machinery to me. It was a gift from my dear sister, Maryann, before she tragically passed away from COVID-19. During the height of the pandemic, when I found myself displaced and without a home, this vehicle was my sanctuary. It allowed me the mobility to travel and care for my brother, Paul, during his own health struggles. It represents a legacy of family taking care of family.

My Current Journey At 70 years old, I live on a limited Social Security income. I take great pride in being able to cover my essential bills—rent, utilities, and insurance—while also providing a home and support for my 33-year-old son, who is currently unable to work.

However, while the engine of my car remains strong, the "wear and tear" of life has caught up with the rest of it. Recently, a stone on Route 22 shattered my windshield, and I am facing necessary repairs for rear wheel well rust and a flex pipe muffler to pass inspection.

Why This Matters Living on a fixed income means that every dollar counts. Currently, without my car, I am forced to rely on expensive rideshare services and higher-priced online grocery deliveries. Most importantly, being without a reliable vehicle means:

  • Health: I cannot easily make my necessary medical appointments at the Wilkes-Barre VA.

  • Family: I am cut off from visiting my children, my grandchildren, and my precious great-grandchild.

How You Can Help I am asking for your assistance to cover these specific repair costs so I can regain my independence and continue to be there for my son and my family. Any contribution, no matter how small, goes directly toward fixing this vehicle and reducing the daily financial strain of being without transport.

I am ever so grateful for your time, your prayers, and your kind-hearted assistance. Thank you for helping me keep Maryann’s gift on the road and for helping a veteran’s family stay connected.

With deepest gratitude,

Peter Haller
