Indo Divers Scuba is located in Nusa Lembongan Bali. Wayan Urip Sudiada is the owner of Indo Divers and ran the shop with his 4 sons. If you ever had the chance to dive with them you may have experienced the majestic coral gardens, or have been visited by the enormous and graceful Manta Rays at Manta Point. Wayan is a parapaligic and teaches others with physical disabilities how to dive safely. Despite his physical limitations, he has worked on farming rice patty fields, harvesting seaweed and created a pig farm to help feed his village.
Indo Divers is a wonderful dive shop that has been very supportive of their community by raising funds to provide for 35 families food and medical supplies during the pandemic.
After 2 years of struggling with the lack of tourism and unused scuba equipment. It is difficult for them to pick up where they left off in 2019.
Thankfully, tourism is back in Bali! Yet, now they need help to get the shop up and running so that they can continue to educate people on the beautiful wild life that lies beneath the Bali sea.
What are we doing now?
Currently, Wayan is working with his family to get the shop back in servicing shape, inspecting the quality of their current supplies, checking, cleaning and servicing tanks.
What are the funds for?
The property owner wants 6 months of rent upfront to reopen. It's just not possible with their current income working on seaweed farms and at local restaurants to have the funds soon enough. Old worn out gear needs to be replaced. A vehicle would definitely help them transport clients and gear from nearby hotels and dive locations.
Boat rentals, a sea captain and gasoline are also factored into cost.
It's important to get the Dive Shop running again because not only is this an opportunity to provide employment on the island it is also a chance to encourage marine educational experiences, break barriers between cultures and encourage ecotourism.
Some of those ecotourism activities would be to participate in reef restoration, seaweed farming techniques and aquaculture education.
At a time where the whole world is dealing with economic and political difficulties, it is important not to forget those people who we met many years ago whom welcomed us to this magical island with wide open arms. There are many people who do not have access to simple things on this small island and the communities there have been suffering for too long. It is our goal to help revitalize the island and the livelihood of the people who live there by helping them become self sufficient once again in their own businesses.
Please share with us a fond memory with Indo Divers. Any donation is appreciated it would really help create job opportunities and encourage eco tourism on these precious islands.
