Suzie came from a killpen. The vet estimated her age around 22. Her teeth are really bad and she is missing about 4. The client who had purchases her could no longer keep up with her care and turned her over to us, rather than running her back through another sale or kill pen. She was too weak to travel. The client had stopped bringing her feed. It has been an uphill battle trying to put weight back on her and maintain it. Once she was turned over to us officially we changed her feed to what she needed per the vet. Otherwise we were feeding her basic Oats and sweet feed and the one bag of senior that was provided.
She is currently getting 10lbs of a special senior feed and 12lbs of soaked alfalfa pellets split into 3 meals per day. She is also getting alfalfa hay and chopped brome hay totaling about 30lbs per day. She also gets a senior weight supplement with her feed.
The vet will re evaluate after 30 days of this. So far after 2 weeks her energy has improved as well as her coat. She is a super sweet horse and our barn really has taken a liking to her.
However, her feed bill is very costly. So is the vet. So any help would be greatly appreciated in her recovery and care. She is also due for a trim for her feet. Other costs also include deworming, vitamins, care for maintaining her stall and turn out and other items related to her care.

- Grain is $30 per bag (1 bag lasts 1 week)
- Alfalfa pellets $19 per bag (1 bag last 5 days)
- Bale of alfalfa hay $15 (1 Bale lasts 4-5 days)
- Bale of brome $15 + our time to chop it so she can actually eat it (2 bales per week)
- Shavings $6 per bin (3 pins per week
- Oil $7 per jug (1 jug lasts 10-11 days)
- Facility cost $140 (monthly)
Spirit Riding has donated her a brand new horse blanket for the winter. Boarders have contributed weight supplement and money towards hay. It's going to take a lot more to save miss Suzie. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
