My name is Bettie, and I am reaching out in a moment of dire need. After enduring years of domestic violence, I am trying to leave and find safe housing as I await approval for medical disability due to a spine injury. Unfortunately, the shelters are overwhelmed, and most aid programs require criteria I cannot meet—like being in active recovery, employed, or having children at home. Before my health deteriorated, I dedicated my life to caring for others as a registered nurse and midwife. I was on a path toward becoming a Nurse Practitioner and nurse midwife  when an autoimmune degenerative spine disease changed everything. Since then, I have struggled with pain and the emotional and economic abuse that have left me facing homelessness. I have a  small dog, Prince, who has been my emotional support and I couldn’t have survived without him! With a very income from alimony, I cannot secure housing or keep my personal belongings safe. I need a lifeline now more than ever to prevent being on the streets. I am waiting for approval on my disability application, which may take 6-12 months.

Your donation will provide hope along with survival and even if you can’t contribute financially, I covet your prayers and support.

Every contribution will help me secure a safe place, keep my belongings in storage, and meet my immediate needs as I seek stability and healing.

Please consider donating today. Your generosity can provide a safe haven for myself and my dog, allowing us to start anew and rebuild our lives.Thank you for opening your heart to someone in crisis. Together, we can make a profound difference.

Hi Everyone, my disability case has been completed and is under review. Have still been on the waiting list for a shelter, not one call since July (yep, I checked to make sure they still had me!). Unfortunately, I got bad health news and am now dealing with a decline in my condition. The autoimmune disease I have is attacking one of my major organs in a very severe way and two others in a lesser way. It’s not a good sign- death usually follows in a year after that process begins. I am holding out some hope that I might be able to make a turnaround when I am under less stress. I could still use help. I need to cover about half my expenses each month with no way to do it. Also, the motel I have been staying at changed management and are no longer allowing long-term guests. So, I will have to leave by the end of the week.

I think of all of you who have helped me daily. It will remain that way. Your help will not be forgotten as long as I am here. I also will do whatever I can to pay it forward as long as I live.

Yesterday was a really difficult day finding out that I had not been able to get my things out of storage in time. I got really discouraged and felt heartbroken, especially because I lost the only pictures, footprints, and blanket I have of my stillborn daughter, Sophia. I didn’t get as much done as I wanted because of that, but I did manage to complete an intake with a domestic violence shelter that offers placement that is long-term and also allows pets. They also work with other shelters to find placement asap. I called one other similar shelter that offers long term shelter to people with disabilities over 50. Both are currently full, but the person I spoke with at the first shelter was very helpful and kind and gave me a lot of good advice, including a list of places that help DV survivors with other needs besides housing. Hopefully, I will get help soon.

i am so grateful for the support that has come. I am hoping I will be able to raise enough funds to help me move what I have left into a small storage unit and to cover expenses I will have after I leave here. Especially, transportation.
I created an Amazon wishlist with items I will need, most I already need. Would love to be able to get those things while I still have an address. I have 8 days left.
