Mission

Give people the dignity of building their own future, literally, with their own hands — whoever they are, wherever they're starting from.

What we're building

NewGround is an 18–24 month rebuild program in Columbia, South Carolina that meets people at the bottom and gives them a real path forward. We serve anyone with the willingness to change — the only admission requirement is wanting something different and being ready to work for it. That includes people overcoming addiction, survivors of domestic violence, homeless individuals, veterans transitioning to civilian life, troubled youth, and couples who need a fresh start.

Two-layer requirement:

  • Entry: Willingness to change and rebuild your life. Open to all populations listed above. No sobriety pre-screening — people don't have to be clean to apply.

  • Residency: Sobriety is required as a condition of staying in the program. Once enrolled, residents commit to a sober living environment.

Residents don't just stay, they rebuild:

  • Men learn construction by building tiny houses on-site — real trade skills, real things to point to.

  • Women earn credentials through education — GEDs, certifications, degrees, whatever comes next for them.

  • Couples grow together through the program side by side.

The common thread at entry isn't sobriety or past trauma — it's the decision to do something different. The common thread during the program is a sober, stable environment where the work can happen.

Where we're headed

A place where the question isn't "what's wrong with you?" but "what are you going to build next?" A community where 18 months of real work, real skills, and a real community that has your back replaces the revolving door of shelters, rehab, and hopelessness. NewGround becomes the model that cities across the country point to when they ask, "that's how you actually help people start over?"

Who we serve

  • People overcoming addiction — open to those sober or working toward it; sobriety becomes a requirement once enrolled

  • Survivors of domestic violence

  • Homeless individuals

  • Veterans

  • Troubled youth

  • Couples

  • Anyone willing to work for a different life, committed to sobriety as a condition of residency
