Throughout 2020 many people experienced unspeakable tragedy and grief. My family was no exception. August 5, 2020, we laid to rest my Grandmother Cammie Green. On October 8, 2020 my beloved brother Johnnie Green III departed this life. His passing was a day that we dreaded for many years, as he struggled all of his earthly life with a debilitating health condition. Through it all, he smiled and brightened the day of everyone around him. Although we knew that the day would one day come, the emotional and financial toll was unexpected.
Although most of his expenses were covered through a small insurance policy, I did not have the means to pay for his burial plot. To that I say, thank God in heaven for the generosity of our dad, who without hesitation gave his pre-paid plot to his son, my brother. At that moment, we thought that we would have time to secure my dad a new plot, but that was not the case.
On January 23, 2021, my daddy, my father, a man that I come to hold the highest respect for as a daughter, Johnny Green Jr. unexpectedly passed away. As a young woman I can honestly say, I know what it is like to have a father's love. For that reason I place my pride aside as once again, I find myself trying desperately to pick up the pieces. To comprehend the tremendous loss of my last remaining parent. To find a way to lay him to rest. If my father knew that he would pass just three short months after his son, my brother, he still would have decided to offer the one thing he had to give, and that was the burial plot. That was the right thing, the only thing to do.
Now, there is no insurance policy nor a burial plot to fall back on. There is nothing except the kindness and generosity of those who loved my father to help cover his final expenses. No amount is too small; every dollar helps.
