Welcome to the third year of Peaks with a Purpose! This is our effort to combine our love for skiing with the joy found inspiring people to do good in the world. In year one, two of us completed 84k feet and raised $9k, and last year thirteen adult and child skiers completed 363k feet and raised over $20k! We want to keep growing Peaks with more adventurers raising even more funds at various mountains around the country. If you or someone you know would be interested in joining Peaks III at any mountain on any date, please enter your info on this sign-up sheet and you'll be included in our upcoming planning meetings.
Our past fundraising has supported civilian victims in the Ukraine, US veterans suffering with invisible post-service injuries, and services to help individuals on the autism spectrum to reach their full potential. This year we're aiming to help combat the rapidly growing mental health and loneliness issues exacerbated by national and global turmoil, residual effects of the pandemic, social media, and mobile phone over-use. Our selected organization this year is Project UnLonely at The Foundation for Art and Healing, which Luke describes here:
This year we have chosen the Foundation for Art & Health: Project UnLonely. This charity aims to promote "creative arts expression as a path towards improved health and wellbeing for individuals and communities" by directly addressing both physical and mental health concerns, providing resources for creativity and expression, and building opportunities for people to succeed on their own. The Project UnLonely initiative helps people find creative expression to help fight against chronic loneliness and mental health that has been magnified by the COVID-19 pandemic. We chose this charity both to support the cause of connection but also in memory of my grandmother, Debbie Tangeman. She was a very talented artist, excelling in pencil and charcoal work, and recently passed away from a battle with dementia. We want to continue her legacy by raising money to help promote connectivity through creative expression.
On Friday, March 22nd, Luke and I will aspire to conquer 40k feet at Killington. If we happen to fall short, then on top of my primary donation I'll donate an additional $1 for every foot short of 40k. If you'd like to support us and our cause, please donate any amount you can. All donations are tax-deductible. If donating through a Donor Advised Fund, you can do so directly through your provider using Project UnLonely's tax ID of 33-1125148 and please include Peaks with a Purpose in your note. Just as importantly, please pass this link along to your friends/family who enjoy skiing/boarding or have a vested interest in the power of art to help heal.
No matter how you support us, we sincerely thank you and will circle back to all those involved with the results of our adventure and the positive impact we all will have made.
This was us last year at our morning-after breakfast - big smiles and sore quads...
