Update - Friday, October 25th
So much happiness to share! Paul would probably kill me for posting this pic but it says it all. He is home in NC and one of his own dogs is pictured with him. He looks so content!
Last weekend we held a fundraiser with themed raffle items and donations from fun runs at the Fast CAT event hosted by the Dalmatian Club of the Piedmont (Karen is President) the the Piedmont Kennel Club where Karen is also on the Board. We raised another $1500 on Saturday. I am now working on the silent auction. If anyone has any items they would like to donate, please reach out.
As many of you may have read, Karen had a misstep in the catch pen while FaceTiming Paul in Boston while their dalmatian Josh was running. Karen and Josh collided and Karen broke her arm!! Josh is a fast beast! The good news, however, is Paul is back in North Carolina and continuing his rehab. He is pictured here with Elvis!
Let’s go another round! We are at 23% of our goal. Please pledge to give up something that can allow you to give. Although I had a Starbucks this morning in celebration that Paul is home, I am going to continue to forgo my stupidly expensive habit and donate it to Paul’s ongoing medical expenses. Please join me in giving to Paul and Karen.
Update - Saturday, October 12th
Out of respect for the fundraising and supply efforts going on in Western North Carolina as the result of Helene, I felt it was appropriate to pause the campaign for Paul given that Paul, Karen and I all live within an hour or so from such devastation.
Thank you to everyone who has reached out for nation thatvPaulnis home SpotFund link. Thank you for all who have shared the link. And Thank you for all who have donated!
To summarize Karen’s posts (God bless her going doing them daily), Paul is still hospitalized in Massachusetts. His progress has been amazing despite a few set backs. He has had to receive more blood transfusions to maintain hemoglobin levels but is otherwise doing well. As we wait for kidney function restoration, Paul continues to receive regular dialysis treatments. He is still weak and not able to use his hands to support himself to walk but has been able to take steps with support and assistance to be able to sit in a recliner next to Karen.
Please continue to pray for Paul and Karen. He has come so far but could use our support. Please consider a donation to help sustain the Rowan’s and be sure to leave a message for Paul to help encourage and strengthen him as he continues to improve. Let’s get him home!
We are still gathering items or services to use for an online auction. If you have any ideas or suggestions, pleas feel free to reach out.
Update - Saturday, September 28th
If you have been following Karen’s posts you know that today was another fabulous day of improvement for Paul. It was nice to hear it in Karen’s voice.
While Paul is the number one focus, the medical bills will become more imminent in the near future. I want to encourage more financial gifts for them. Please share this link/post. Spot Fund does not charge any fees and all proceeds go directly to an account that Paul and Karen can access. There is also an option if you would like to stay anonymous.
Stay tuned for some online auctions and activities .
Additional Update From Karen -
October 12th, it has been one month since Paul was admitted to the hospital.
The other day, I asked a friend of ours, who is an infectious disease doctor to take a look at his chart. She called back and said, Karen I knew Paul was bad, but I didn’t realize exactly how bad. He was closer to death and it it’s a Miracle he is alive. She said the doctors did everything humanly possible to treat every organ that was failing on him. But it was a true miracle he pulled through o. The right end. He has a long road for recovery. He fought the hardest battle ever imaginable. It’s going to take many months to get him back in shape but everyday there is more improvement.
Our next step, we are trying to get him back to Charlotte, the only way to do that is by air ambulance. Unfortunately, this type of transport isn’t covered by insurance, so we are looking to charities that may assist with the cost associated with this. A few weeks ago, Bobbie Fortenbery started a spot fund campaign for Paul, so if you can help we would truly appreciate it.
